You can see how buyers find you in about 15 minutes. Search for your company on Google, check your Google Business Profile, then ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity the questions your buyers ask. Write down where you show up, where you do not, and which competitors get named instead.
Why should builders check their own visibility?
Buyers no longer start with your website. They start with a search or a question to an AI tool. According to the Previsible 2026 State of AI Discovery Report, AI use for local search jumped from 6% to 45% in one year, and AI tools recommend only about 1.2% of local businesses.
If you have not looked at what buyers see, you are guessing. This quick check replaces the guess with facts.
Minutes 1 to 5: Google yourself
Open a private browser window so your own history does not change the results. Then search:
- Your company name
- Your company name plus "reviews"
- "New homes in" plus your city
- "Homebuilders near me" while in your market area
Write down what you see. Does your website show up first? Is your Google Business Profile complete? Are your reviews recent? Do directory sites list the right phone number and address?
Minutes 6 to 10: Check your Google Business Profile
Your Google profile is often the first thing a buyer sees. Look for:
- Correct name, address, phone, and hours on every profile and community
- Recent photos of model homes, interiors, and neighborhoods
- Fresh reviews with replies from your team
- Regular posts about new homes, events, and offers

Minutes 11 to 15: Ask the AI tools
Now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity the questions your buyers ask. Try:
- "Who are the best homebuilders in [your city]?"
- "Which builders in [your area] offer [your price range] homes?"
- "Is [your company name] a good builder?"
- "Where can I find new construction homes near [a local landmark]?"
Count how many answers name you. Note who gets named instead, and what the AI says about you when it does mention you.
What do the results mean?
If you show up on Google but not in AI answers, your site and listings may not be giving AI tools clear, trusted facts. If AI tools describe you wrong, your information is probably inconsistent across the web. If competitors get named and you do not, they are sending stronger signals.
The good news is that size does not decide these answers. We have watched a small builder outrank five national builders in AI search, and one CEA client went from 5% to 42% AI visibility. Read the full story in our AI visibility case study.
What should builders fix first?
- Make your name, address, and phone number match everywhere you are listed.
- Answer real buyer questions in plain language on your website.
- Ask every new homeowner for a review, and reply to each one.
- Add schema markup so search engines and AI tools can read your pages clearly.

Frequently asked questions
How often should we run this check?
Once a month is a good rhythm. AI answers change often, so a regular check shows whether your fixes are working.
Why do AI tools give different answers?
Each tool uses different sources and changes over time. That is why you should check several tools, not just one.
Do we need special software?
Not for this quick check. For ongoing tracking across many questions, a full audit gives a much clearer picture.
What if AI tools say something wrong about us?
Fix the source. Update your website, Google profile, and listings so the correct facts show up everywhere.
